The Zephyranthes atamasca plant species is found in Southern N. America - Missouri and Virginia to Florida. It is a member of the Amaryllidaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Atamasco lily.

Known Hazards:  The bulb contains toxic compounds[62]. Horses are said to gat the staggers (a cerebospinal disease) from eating the leabes and bulbs[207].
 
Mature Height:  0.3   Mature Width:  0.1
 
Habitat:  Damp woods[43].



Edible Uses:  Bulb - cooked[2, 22, 46, 61]. It is used as an emergency food when better foods are in short supply[61, 161]. The bulb is up to 3cm long[235]. Caution is advised, see the notes above on toxicity.
