The Smilax laurifolia plant species is found in Southeastern N. America - New Jersey to Florida and Texas. It is a member of the Smilacaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Laurel greenbrier.

Habitat:  Swamps and low ground[43]. Moist woods and thickets[235].



Cultivation Notes:  Succeeds in most soils in sun or semi-shade[200]. This species is not very hardy in Britain[1]. It succeeds outdoors in S.W. England, but even there it is best when grown against a wall[11]. The fruit takes two growing seasons to ripen[235]. Dioecious. Male and female plants must be grown if seed is required.
