Quercus species Deciduous tree (1 Page of 5) The Quercus species plant species is found in A collection of garden hybrids. It is a member of the Fagaceae family. Cultivation | Propagation | General Uses Medicinal | Edible Uses Latin Name: Quercus species Family: Fagaceae Author: Known Hazards: None known Mature Height: Mature Width: Habitat: Not known in the wild.
Propagation Notes: Seed. This is a hybrid species and will not breed true from seed. However, if you want to sow the seed then this should be done as soon as possible since it quickly loses viability if allowed to dry out. It can be stored moist and cool overwinter but is best sown as soon as it is ripe in an outdoor seed bed but must be protected from mice, squirrels etc. Small quantities of seed can be sown in deep pots in a cold frame. Plants produce a deep taproot and need to be planted out into their permanent positions as soon as possible, in fact seed sown in situ will produce the best trees[11]. Trees should not be left in a nursery bed for more than 2 growing seasons without being moved or they will transplant very badly.
