The Plantago rugelii plant species is found in Eastern N. America - Quebec to North Dakota, south to Florida. It is a member of the Plantaginaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Blackseed plantain.

Habitat:  Damp shores, roadsides and waste places[43].



Medicinal Information:  Plantain seeds contain up to 30% mucilage which swells up in the gut, acting as a bulk laxative and soothing irritated membranes[238]. Sometimes the seedhusks are used without the seeds[238]. A poultice of the fresh leaves is used to treat burns and inflammations[257].
