Habitat:  Coastal situations and occasionally inland on South Island[44].

General Uses: Very resistant to maritime exposure and tolerant of severe pruning, this plant can be used as an effective windbreak hedge in exposed maritime areas. Very useful for the outer defences but it is slow growing[75].
