The Nothofagus pumilio plant species is found in Southern S. America. It is a member of the Fagaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Lenga. Some home gardeners know the variety as Fagus pumilio.

Habitat:  Dominant or co-dominant in deciduous forest on better drained sites and well developed soils from sea level to 1800 metres[69].



Edible Uses:  The sap and scrapings are eaten in spring[69]. The term scrapings probably refers to the inner bark. Inner bark is often dried, ground into a powder and then used as a thickener in soups etc or added to cereals when making bread.
