The Magnolia macrophylla plant species is found in Southeastern N. America - Kentucky to North Carolina, Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana. It is a member of the Magnoliaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Bigleaf magnolia.

Habitat:  Usually growing in isolated groups of a few individuals in sheltered deep rich woods, often in ravines and river valleys[82, 229].



Medicinal Information:  An infusion of the bark has been used in the treatment of stomach aches or cramps[257]. A hot infusion of the bark has been snuffed for treating sinus problems and has been held in the mouth for treating toothache[257].
