The Juniperus excelsa plant species is found in S. Europe to E. Asia. It is a member of the Cupressaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Grecian juniper. Some home gardeners know the variety as J. macropoda. Boiss.

Habitat:  Inner dry ranges of the Himalayas, 1500 - 4200 metres[146], from Nepal to Afghanistan.



Edible Uses:  Fruit - raw or cooked. A liquid is obtained from the fruit[146] (used for drinking?).The cones are about 7 - 12mm in diameter and take 2 years to mature[200].
