Habitat:  Forests and streamsides, 2100 - 3600 metres from Pakistan to S.W. China, most common in the west of its range[51].



Cultivation Notes:  Succeeds in most soils[1]. Prefers a moist humus rich soil in shade or semi-shade[200]. Best grown in cool places by water[1]. A very ornamental plant[1], it is hardy to about -15°c[187].
