Calystegia soldanella

The Calystegia soldanella plant species is found in Britain. It is a member of the Convolvulaceae family. Common gardeners may know the plant as Sea bindweed. Some home gardeners know the variety as Convolvulus soldanella.

Known Hazards:  This species is said to be purgative[173], some caution is advised.

Habitat:  Sandy and shingly sea shores and dunes[1, 17].



Propagation Notes:  Seed - sow spring in a cold frame in a free draining compost and only just cover. The seed usually germinates in 1 - 3 months at 15°c[138]. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in a cold frame for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Division in early spring whilst dormant[200].
