Habitat:  Alpine forests[147].

Cultivation Notes: Requires a sunny position or light dappled shade[11, 200]. Prefers a highly fertile well-drained loamy soil[11, 200]. This species is only likely to be hardy in the very mildest parts of Britain, requiring a warm sunny corner. One report says that it is not frost tolerant[200], but another gives its native habitat as alpine forests[147], a habitat that would experience frosts[K]. Requires cross-pollination for good fruit production[182]. Plants in this genus are notably resistant to honey fungus[200].
