Cultivation Notes:  Requires a sunny position or light dappled shade[1, 200]. Prefers a highly fertile well-drained loamy soil[1, 200]. Plants are only really hardy in the milder parts of Britain and even then they need the protection of a wall[182, 200]. Requires cross-pollination for good fruit production[182]. Plants in this genus are notably resistant to honey fungus[200].
